“Sultry Stitches” Series works
My (Shelley L. Marie) playful textile works are deeply connected to the Pattern & Decoration Movement of the mid-1970s to the early 1980s & as well as addressing stereotypical definitions of ‘woman’s work”. They contain an over-exaggerated, cheerful vibe; while simultaneously poking fun at the amusing & bemusing Art World's comedic argument in defining what constitutes Art & what constitutes Craft. My artwork contains vivid hues that are striking, yet delicate; plunging the viewer into various worlds of color, design & textures. These works use a variety of unique media usage; which includes, but not limited to, materials such as fabric, thread, plastic, cotton & other mixed media details. These works exhibit some of the intricacies between life, laughter, & the delights of childhood into the complexities of womanhood.
